![]() ![]() If VAAI is enabled on the ESXi hosts and on the storage array, it will offload the svMotion migration operation to the array instead of going through the VMkernel, which increases the migration speed. There is a performance impact from running svMotion – read IO from the source and write IO on the destination. svMotion uses a mirror driver to copy virtual hard drives and/or the home directory from the source to destination datastores simultaneously, which keeps everything in sync until the svMotion operation is complete on the destination, at which point the source data is deleted. VMware vSphere Edition Comparison Hybrid Cloud Capabilities Product Features VMware vSphere Standard VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus vCenter Hybrid Linked Mode Enables unified visibility and management across on-premises vCenter and vCenter on a vSphere enabled cloud such as VMware Cloud on AWS. SvMotion enables live migration of virtual disks and their home directories without any downtime. The intended effect of this process is to minimize the time during which the VM is suspended in a best case this will be the time of the final transfer plus the time required to start the new VM. At the last moment it will very briefly 'freeze' the existing VM, transfer the last changes in the RAM content and then start the new VM. ESX uses a system where the content is sent to the other VM and then it will check what data is changed and send that, each time smaller blocks. The content of memory is by its nature changing all the time. ĭuring vMotion Live Migration (vLM) of the (RAM) memory of the VM is sent from the running VM to the new VM (the instance on another host that will become the running VM after the vLM). Live storage migration (Storage vMotion) enables live migration of virtual disks on the fly. Live migration (vMotion) in ESX allows a virtual machine to move between two different hosts. ![]() VMFS is the leading cluster le system for virtualization. ![]() VMFS insight and monitoring are built into VMware vCenter as an intelligent interface that enables efficiency and easy management. VMware vMotion and svMotion require the use of vCenter and ESXi hosts. Leveraging VMware vSphere Thin Provisioning can dramatically increase the utilization rates of your storage resources in a virtual environment. VCenter Server is the centralized management utility for VMware, and is used to manage virtual machines, multiple ESXi hosts, and all dependent components from a single centralized location. Personally, I'd be fine with just beiong able to install multiple clients on the same PC, which would probably be easiest for VMWare to accomplish.Windows Server (latest version supported: 6.7U2) VMware ESXi It would be nice if VMWare would build the clients to support previous versions, IE: v5 client be able to connect to v5, and all releases of 4.1, 4.0 & 3.5, allow you to install multiple versions of the client side by side, or have a free thinapp for each version. Is there an "undocumented" way to install multiple client versions on the same PC? I did find the Thinapped vSphere client, but it seems that is dead as I don't believe it was updated to support 4.1u1. I'd like to be able to access both clients on the same PC. I had to make a VM to install the v5 client on. Both my work and home environments are running 4.1 u1 so thats the version of the client that's installed on my machines. Although at this time, I have no plans to "upgrade" to vSphere5 in my work environment or the free v5 Hypervisor in my home/test environment due to the vMem licensing, I have it installed on a server to test. I'm sure there are many people who have had to administer multiple versions of vSphere/ESX/ESXi. ![]()
